The Bob Rueppel Mini Meet at Old Orchard Swim Club is a swimming meet for children ages 9 and under, which will be held on Sunday, July 7th, 2019. The Meet features 61 events, including fun “kick board” races for the youngest participants!  Old Orchard also runs “Hot Heats” with small prizes to the winners of these randomly selected heats.  The continued success of this annual event is in part due to the fun, relaxed, and safe outdoor swimming environment offered by Old Orchard Swim Club .

The Michael Heaney Scholarship

1500 Meters for Mike is a one-mile open water swim which squarely rests on two pillars – advocating and raising money for those living with brain trauma and to remember our friend Michael Heaney who passed away in 2013 after a long struggle with his own traumatic brain injuries.

The Michael Heaney Scholarship will again be open to any senior swimmer in the Tri County Summer Swim League, as well as any senior swimmer at Bishop Eustace HS. The details of the scholarship can be found in the application on their website.

Congrats to last year’s recipients of award, Alexandra Bromley and Robert Wachter.

Wedgewood Takes Tri-County Swimming Championships

At the Cherry Bowl Swimming Championships on July 30, Old Orchard coach Chris Brookover said his kids “swam out of their minds” on their way to a title. On Sunday at the 60th Annual Burt German Tri-County Swimming Championships, Jim Villa’s team did the same.

Wedgewood Swim Club cruised to the team title with a total of 855.5 points. Coming in second was Wenonah, which scored 470 points.

“We had another undefeated season, so we felt pretty confident coming into the meet,” Villa said with the championship trophy in hand. “The kids swam out of their minds, and it was a great team effort.”
